EC renews commitment to eCall as demo starts

Neelie Kroes, the European Commissioner responsible for the Digital Agenda, has reinforced the EC’s commitment to public eCall emergency assistance services at a Brussels event organised by Eucar, the European Carmaker’s R&D body.

DAB in Germany to be reviewed in December

In 2008 the governmental body in charge of funding public broadcasters, Kommission zur Ermittlung des Finanzbedarfes (KEF) put a freeze on funding for DAB expansion due to the slow growth in services and receivers. On the 15th of December 2010, the KEF will review this decision one last time, and it could either be great news for DAB, or very bad news.

China Unicom to open WoStore for apps business

China Unicom is planning to open an app store before the end of 2010 for its 160 million users. A beta trial version of the WoStore, formerly named UniStore, has been launched with 2,000 apps available for download to smartphones.

Brazil tracking mandate delayed to December 2011 for all passenger vehicles

SBD has now confirmed a further delay in the introduction of tracking systems on all new vehicles in Brazil with an official announcement from Contran, the Brazilian National Transit Council.
