Officials from the European Commission are set to provide details of policy plans to support Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at PPE’s upcoming conference Recharging the European electric vehicle market: Meeting infrastructure and standardisation challenges in Brussels.
The planned presentations from the Advanced Road Vehicles and Trans-European Network Policy units of DG Move will address subsidies for automotive research projects, battery leasing, boosting uptake of EVs through improving the charging infrastructure and recommendations for future policy actions.
The Brussels event on October 6 is focused on the need for Europe-wide infrastructure and standardisation of power networks and charging systems. These issues are identified as key potential obstacles to the spread of EVs in SBD’s new report A deployment roadmap for Connected Electric Vehicles.
“While the USA is in advanced stages of developing standards for connectivity, the Europeans and Chinese are taking longer due to a mixture of commercial and political barriers,” says Deepa Rangarajan, the author of the SBD research report, who will be attending the PPE meeting. “The roles of utility companies, vehicle manufacturers and 3rd party charging infrastructure providers are still being defined and the value chain for connected EVs is still unclear,” adds Rangarajan.
The PPE event, for which SBD is a marketing partner, will include presentations from the e-Mobility standardisation division of German electricity supplier RWE and the European carmaker association ACEA.
