Once again the world’s motoring press trained all eyes on the Frankfurt Messe last week as it played host to the 64th Frankfurt Motor Show. Whilst much of the focus continues to be on electric vehicles and the progress towards more fuel efficient cars, the SBD Secure Car team were there to examine all the latest developments in anti-theft technology.
With eleven halls of displays and impressive show stands from the domestic manufacturers there was no shortage of highlights, but here are SBD’s top three headlines for vehicle security:
Smart Key takes centre stage at Frankfurt
Increases have been made in smart key availability with each world motor show, but Frankfurt in 2011 saw the biggest step increase in recent years for availability of new systems, including debut systems from Citroen, Fiat and Honda.
Suppliers push forward with gateway keyfobs
Vehicle Manufacturers may be satisfying short-term demand for a remote interface to the vehicle through smart phone applications, but the suppliers such as TRW, Valeo and Delphi continue to develop the next generation systems of gateway keyfobs; using NFC links from the phone to the key fob and the existing RF technology for key fob communication with the vehicle.
Continental take the NFC smart phone fob link one stage further…
Continental introduced their new concept to eliminate the key fob altogether with an update on their NFC smart phone venture with NXP. The user holds the phone to the door handle to unlock the vehicle, places the phone on the charging pad inside the vehicle and uses the push button to start the engine.
