The challenge to in-car navigation and entertainment systems from mobile phones has been growing steadily over the last decade. With the introduction of smartphone apps, this threat to OE systems has intensified.
Smartphone integration, connected navi and ADAS at the Paris Motor Show
Multiple smartphone app and integration solutions were on show at the Paris Motor Show from the BMW group. Four different solutions for integrating the mobile phone with the vehicle were shown by BMW including iPod-out, remote control app, docking station and MINI Connected proxy app solution.

The market for EVs is at an early stage, but due to the changes required in infrastructure and consumer behaviour, vehicle manufacturers are investigating what services will be needed to deploy EVs on a mass-market scale. Telematics is seen as an enabler, helping monitor the deployment of EV technologies.
Demand for look-alike navi systems in China to surge to over 3 million units by 2011
Embedded navigation in China is thriving, but vehicle manufacturers are not enjoying the results. This is one of the many findings from a recent report published by SBD. Demands for these systems by 2011 is expected to outgrow OE navigation.
