Volkswagen and the Swedish National Society for Road Safety have jointly demonstrated a Speed Camera Lottery scheme in Stockholm. Fines collected from drivers that exceeded the 30 km/h speed limit were provided as cash lottery prizes to randomly selected drivers that kept to the speed limit.
The concept was developed through VW’s The Fun Theory website that encourages drivers to put forward innovative ideas aimed at improving environmental or safety behavour by consumers.
Approximately 25,000 cars passed the speed camera during the three-day trial. The average speed fell 22% from 32 km/h to 25 km/h during this period.
